VULNERABLE ADOLESCENT AND EARLY MARRIED GIRLS EMPOWERMENT PROJECT

Project Overview 

Key Objectives

  • Prevent school dropouts and ensure protection, development, and participation rights of vulnerable adolescent girls.  
  • Facilitate access to education, healthcare, and social security services for early married girls.  
  • Prevent gender-based violence and teenage pregnancy.  
  • Increase access to secondary education and job-oriented vocational training.  
  • Raise awareness among local government and law enforcement to prevent child exploitation and abuse. 

Program Strategies 

1. Prevention

  • Organizing clubs such as Kishori clubs, Child Rights Clubs, and EMG Clubs to encourage children’s participation in asserting their rights.  
  • Preventing school dropouts through re-enrollment and follow-up measures.  

2. Provision

  •  Providing access to education, healthcare facilities, and linking children to government schemes.  
  •  Offering vocational training and leadership development opportunities for girls.  

3. Promotion  

  • Advocating for the enforcement of child protection laws and policies related to the exploitation of women and vulnerable individuals. 
  • Conducting awareness campaigns on issues impacting vulnerable girls.

Key Interventions

  • Organizing clubs to support child rights and participation.  
  • Re-enrolling dropouts and ensuring access to healthcare and government services.  
  • Conducting awareness campaigns on child exploitation, education, and health.  
  • Strengthening Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to support the rights of vulnerable girls. 

Collaboration and Support 

The project is supported by Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives, Bengaluru, with a focus on enhancing the health and well-being of at-risk girls in Vijayapura district. It collaborates with local schools, communities, government departments, and civil society organizations.  

Target Location and Population  

The project is implemented across 52 villages within the 15 Gram Panchayat jurisdictions of Babaleshwar taluk in Vijayapura district. Targeting a population of approximately 75,000 people from 2,500 socially and economically disadvantaged families, the project focuses on supporting vulnerable children and adolescents.  

Expected Outcomes

  • Increased utilization of education, healthcare, and social services by vulnerable girls.  
  • Improved self-confidence and leadership skills among adolescent and early married girls.  
  • Awareness and enforcement of child protection policies by local authorities.
